Meet Nancy Camp - Professional Sketch
Nancy has been involved in the equine industry since attending the Horsemaster’s course at the Potomac Horse Center in 1973. She taught riding and trained horses while attending commercial art school and obtaining her Master’s degree in Art History. Nancy has managed a variety of equine operations including boarding facilities and a tack and feed retail store. Racehorses, hunters, jumpers, three-day, dressage, pleasure and gaited horses of many different breeds have added to her experience. As a veterinary assistant for eleven years, she became interested in and completed courses of study in acupressure for horses, equine craniosacral and has adapted High Touch® Jin Shin energy work for use on animals.

She teaches Integrated Riding™ which combines her Connected Riding skills with methods she has learned from Peggy Cummings and other instructors with the body awareness she has gained from working with guild certified Feldenkrais® instructor, Robert Spencer, to make riding a skill filled with fun and ease.

Nancy illustrated Peggy Cumming’s book, Connected Riding™, An Introduction and Maureen Roger’s Equine Craniosacral Workbook 1. She does a variety of freelance illustration work and especially enjoys equestrian related topics.

Bodywork
Routine bodywork maintains a horse's optimum comfort, performance and health and is essential to Nancy's training philosophy. She employs homeopathic remedies, herbs and essential oils in her work to address physical and emotional pain. She uses the bodywork techniques of acupressure, equine craniosacral work, and the Japanese art of High Touch® Jin Shin, to rebalance the body's energy flows. To reduce stress and encourage relaxation Nancy uses TTeam TTouch® and a variety of equine stretches and massage techniques as well as structured groundwork exercises. Read Nancy's article, Jin Shin Energy Balancing for Your Horse, which appeared in Natural Horse Magazine.

If your veterinarian has identified a specific injury or chronic health issue, these bodywork techniques may speed recovery and/or provide comfort. Nancy also uses aromatherapy and herbal supplements to help balance a horse's body and mind. She is a distributor for Silver Lining Equine Herbal Supplements.

Training Philosophy
Nancy begins her relationship with any horse by assessing and acknowledging physical and emotional concerns. She believes a horse's physical discomfort is the primary cause of most postural and nearly all behavioral issues. The first step in restoring a horse's well being and preparing him for further education is to eliminate discomfort due to improper saddle fit, dental care, shoeing and overlooked chiropractic and body issues. Next, Nancy designs a complementary bodywork and training program for the horse. Using groundwork, and bodywork, she builds the horse's self confidence and his ability to focus. Nancy's goal in this phase is to improve physical balance, which is a reflection of mental attitude. She seeks to provide the horse with the tools necessary to be able to think and respond to situations rather than react to them. She then carries this work to the horse's training under saddle.

Proper dental care and maintenance is key to achieving this goal. Read Nancy's article, What Every Rider Needs to know About Equine Dentistry which appeared in Natural Horse Magazine, Peggy Cumming's Connected Riding Newsletter and Linda Telling-Jones' Tteam Connections Newsletter.

Riding Lessons
Integrated RidingTM techniquesThe final piece in the puzzle is twofold. First, Integrated Riding™ techniques are employed to make the rider more comfortable for the horse to carry and improve rider-horse communication. In her Integrated Riding™ instruction, Nancy combines her Connected Riding skills with methods she learned from Peggy Cummings and other instructors with the body awareness she has gained from working with guild certified Feldenkrais® instructor, Robert Spencer to make riding a skill filled with fun and ease.

Secondly, more advanced ground schooling encourages the horse to use his body efficiently and promotes proper muscular development by teaching self-carriage. The result is increased soundness, performance, and improved health. Nancy willingly shares her knowledge for the betterment of horse and rider.
