Bring Us Your Problems

Pilot's Reward - Riding Camp 2006

Nancy Camp has been a professional in the world of horses since 1972. Her endeavors have led her through positions at boarding stables, racetracks, show barns, veterinary clinics and retail tack and feed stores. Since 1996, Nancy has accepted the establishment of a new paradigm for equine management as a life calling.

"I invite everyone to re-examine the traditional paradigm for dealing with horses and help me in my efforts to establish a new one. Let's all step out of the role of master and take on the role of student by listening to what they have to say about their lives and the time we spend with them."

One way for you to participate is to join Cookie Grimes and I at one, or all, of our Montana, Idaho Challenge Riding Camps this summer.

Cookie and I extend a challenge to you this year. Break out of the fetters that are holding you in a stagnant relationship with your horse and have some fun. Your horse will appreciate it as much as you will. I want every one of you to ask some questions about your horse and how you deal with him/her. Each of those questions should begin with, "What if…," and you can fill in the blanks. Here's an example: "What if that sign of resistance is really a sign of discomfort?"

Some of the things Cookie and I have in our bag of tricks are ways to help you better see what's going on when you observe horses, numerous body work aids from constructive grooming to the established modalities of High Touch® Jin Shin, Traditional Chinese Medicine's Acupressure and Dr. Sid Erickson's Energy Release routines for your horse's spine. Much can be accomplished with groundwork and finding your center as a rider can make it easier for your horse to carry you as well as improve your comfort and safety in the saddle.
