I left it in real time with only the transitions discussed below divided. This horse does not have a lot of body issues. She is not ridden. She has been with me for three years to rehab PTSD from some ill-advised training. Her issues are primarily emotional and she is insulin resistant, the primary symptom being sore feet during flareups. It is also worth noting that I did this entire routine with her the night before when she managed to walk out of the camera's viewing field several times, resulting in a need to re-film, which made for a smooth demonstration. |
Now incorporating WHT SOUND BODY, SOUND MIND Tuning Fork Therapy® + Aura Clearing + Emotional Balancing ![]() My Tuning Fork Therapy, TFT® practice is complemented by: 1. ON WE GO!!! in 2021 Jalila’s blog has a new feature, “Jalila Says” These posts are inspired by my work with Connection Training positive Reinforcement (R+), particularly their emphasis on understanding the emotional lives of horses and reading subtle communication signs and signals. A CT winter book club discussion introduced me to Rachael Draaisma’s book, “Language Signs & Calming Signals of Horses” a few years ago. I refer to it often and highly recommend it. Of course, you can continue to follow Case Study Jalila (aka Jillie, my will-be 8-in-June, Arabian mare) under the Horse Talk heading in the drop down menu. Subscribe to the RSS Feed to be notified of updates and new posts. Jalila is amazing! The blog now regularly includes DWA Shiraz, a coming nine year-old Arabian mare who is on loan to me from Drinkers of the Wind Arabians (DWA), Bellevue, Idaho, USA, because Jalila needs a buddy. Both are coming along nicely as I continue to expand my knowledge of bodywork techniques, emotional aspects, and training methods. A big shout out to the Connection Training folks in England, Hannah Weston and Rachel Bedingfield, whose positive reinforcement approach is a big hit with the girls, and to Patrise Kortekaas in Eugene, whose Animal Normalization Technique (ANT bodywork) is more awesome every day. |

Learn More About Nancy And WHT
I am a retired Connected Riding® Instructor with over 40 years experience in the equine industry. My “wholistic” focus and desire to improve the quality of life for animals by teaching mindful regard and training based in a trust motivated partnership guides my practice.
Bodywork For Horses And Dogs
In the 1990’s, I realized that most of the “training” issues I had with horses were based in the horse's ability to respond and comply. I realized that posture is key to effective riding. In my youth, I suffered from a string of athletic and automobile accidents. I lived with pain and dysfunction until I introduced to Feldenkrais and Network Spinal Analysis. After 33 years of chronic pain, changing my postural habits and adopting a bodywork maintenance program, I was pain free in just a couple of years. “What if I could do that for horses?!” Whole Horse Training was born in 1995.
You will find pages here about bodywork for horses and bodywork for dogs as well explanations of the energy work modalities I have learned, including High Touch® Jin Shin and ANT®, Animal Normalization Therapy. I also share some success stories I’ve had with horses and dogs and a few other little creatures that have happened along.
How Connection Training Figures into the WHT Picture
Reward based training is not only THE most effective way to build trust and model desirable behaviors, it's a blast. Jalila's blog pages (from page 6 on) share insights and videos. It's hard to take yourself too seriously when you play with a horse.
How Connected Riding® Figures into The WHT Picture
Meeting Peggy Cummings, founder of Connected Riding®, was a major turning point in my life. Peggy’s methods are based in functional movement and synchronization between horse and rider. When a rider employs the methodology of Connected Riding®, based in functional postural concerns for the human body, she becomes a mindful partner. Kindness, consideration and trust are key factors in Connected practice and I have found no other riding modality that addresses these concerns like Connected Riding®.
WHT Tips, Practices, and Publications
I share horsekeeping hints, from hay string curtains to insights about training and caring for horses and dogs. You''ll find these topics addressed on the Horse Talk and Dog Talk pages. View articles I have published going to the published articles page.
Classes And Workshops To Take and/or Host and What's Going On with Nancy and WHT
I teach riding, art, and art history and love to share my knowledge with others. The workshops and clinics page details the formats of classes. I’m open to customizing private or group trainings. Art classes can be dovetailed with equine instruction to increase appeal to a wider range of participants and add variety to a learning environment.
